Please excuse the fact that I’ve cut my head off – I’d been sewing for two days solid and my face and hair weren’t worth seeing – trust me lol!

I found this pattern quite easy to follow and the pieces went together well (I have to say the cotton fabric I had, sewed an absolute dream).  I have still to hem the skirt which I think I am going to shorten a little more, I’m only 5’4″ so I’d already shaved 5″ off the length and I have to insert the zip.  I think I may have to adjust the seams under the arms so that the dress lies flat but so far I’m impressed with my first dress and my first commercial pattern sewn :-).

I shall have to give it a twirl at a sunday dance at some point – just got to finish it off first 🙂

Hung Up 🙂

New Look 6675

My next sewing project (I have already coutout the pattern pieces) is New Look 6675:

New Look 6675

I aim to make pattern A with the shoulder straps and I have a black cotton fabric with little bright blue flowers embroidered on to it spaced about 1 1/2 inches apart.  I am as far as cutting the pattern and have washed the fabric ready for cutting, I just need to find the time now to get it pressed and the pieces pinned and cut.  I have a feeling that finding the time and skill to attempt this is going to take me some time lol 🙂 – oh well I can only try and strive to get it done.

Has anyone out there attempted the dress pattern?

Hot Patterns Wrap Vest

This is a free Hot Patterns download from http://www.fabric.com

I’m using a hot pink jersey material for this and its proving problematic to say the least.

All sections cut out – fine.

Trims stitched together and seam allowances pressed – fine

Wrap parts and ties stitched together, seam allowances pressed and narrow hems done – fine.

Wrap parts attached to the front of the vest with pins – fine

Back of vest sewn on at shoulders and seam allowances pressed – fine.

Neck trim attached – not fine.  Even with steam ironing the fabric and stretching it and so far 3 attempts at easing – it doesn’t fit!! Its too small.  I had to leave this and take a breather last night and hope that when I go back to it this morning with fresh (cough) eyes all will be fine.

Wish me luck!!!

Shirring

Ooooh now I’ve read lots of online blogs/forums on shirring – I have so many ideas going through my head for sumer tops and dresses.

I think I nned to get me some fabric and elastic thread!

Busy, busy, busy …..
Sewing Plans for this weekend are:

Make some Morsbags out of some lovely oilcloth type fabric I have in.

Cut out fabric for dress and measure, cut out fabric and make a start on my bedroom curtains!!

If I get chance I may even get time to make myself a coffee and walk the dog!

Organising

Well tonights the night I can wash my hair after my 3 days avoiding water lol (cue a lot of dry shampoo!!) – I’ll be driving home from work and walking straight through the door and into the shower!!

I’ll post an update of how my hair is after the straightening treatment later.

I thought I’d use this blog to keep track of everything I’m trying to get done, especially craft wise mainly sewing.

List:

I have a pair of standard curtains to make plus linings for my bedroom.  All fabrics and headers are bought I just need to get black thread for my overlocker and get stuck in – fabric is sat in its Simon Boyd bag on the kitchen floor until then.

I have fabric (black with little blue embroidered flowers) and a pattern to make a 50s dress.  The pattern’s cut but that is as far as I have got so far – need to set aside the time to cut the fabric and get pinning and fitting.

I also have approx 3m of a gorgeous pvc/oilcoth fabric in cream with little radley shaped dogs on that I want to make some bags with.

So all in all not enough hours in the day or days in the week to move anything forward – I shall have to get stuck in this weekend to make some progress!
